Newsletter Sept 2002 - Sports and Chiropractic
In the summer of 2002 track and field have been in focus at Kiropraktorcentrum. Sixteen of the track and field athletes have been visiting the clinic on Kungsgatan regularly this summer. Sustained injuries have actively been treated and minor injuries have been eliminated.
Chiropractic care of athletes have always been a priority at Kiropraktorcentrum. The more and more extreme conditions in sports have put high demands on the physical, mental and biochemical efficency of todays athletes. And who is better educated than chiropractors to take care of them?
The physical body is exposed to injury of muscle, joint, ligament, and joint capsule. A thorough examination of sprained or strained structures is a must. When the injured structure has been localized, a treatment must be found. Besides fractures or more severe sprains or strains, treatment may be found for almost all sports injuries. Besides specific treatment, a realistic treatment plan is required which is designed to rehabilitate the patient. The athlete can then progressively return to training and competition.
Mentally the athletes is often on their own. Pep talks and strategical support by the trainers is sometimes not enough. American chiropractors specialized in treating athletes have developed interesting techniques to treat mental fixations. The athlete may consciously believe in achieving a medal, but unconsciously there is doubt. By eliminating the blockage, the athlete has a better chance of success when there is a solid sense of belief both consciously and unconsciously.
The body must also function well biochemically. Without proper nutritional intake the body cannot function optimally. Coca cola between the semifinals and the finals is surely catastrophical. This is obvious for most people when analyzed. But not always for the young athlete who is often brainwashed by olympian sponsors (Coca cola), false marketing and misinformation. The consequences are often disastrous. In educating the athletic trainers and leaders in the understanding of nutrition and supplements, the chiropractor can participate in making the athlete not only fit, but healthy, vibrant, vigorous and robust.
