"in 1895 Daniel David Palmer performed the first chiropractic adjustment"

The inception of modern chiropractic DD Palmercan be traced back to 1895 when Canadian Daniel David Palmer performed the first chiropractic adjustment and went on to found The Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1897, which still exists today.

D.D. Palmer was born in Ontario, Canada in 1845 and moved to Iowa in the USA in 1865 at the age of 20. After a 20 year period as a successful horticulturist and farmer he turned his interests to natural healing. Within 4 years his magnetic healing practice had made him an extremely influential man.

D.D. Palmer was a great reader of all things scientific Kiropraktikens historiaand realised that although manipulation had been used for thousands of years, no-one had actually developed a philosophical or scientific rationale to explain their effects. The art of chiropractic began after the very fist chiropractic adjustment in 1895 and later developed from it.

The 20th century saw the growth and development of the profession worldwide and now it has gained both recognition and respect. Chiropractic is unique in that the profession is organised internationally and there are international standards for education.
